My year reporting from the war in #Gaza
“If you survive in Gaza during this war, you have a near death experience everyday.” Subscribe to The Guardian on YouTube ► http://bit.ly/subscribegdn Majdi Fathi is a freelance photojournalist living and working from al-Aqsa hospital, the only functioning facility in central Gaza. Along with many other journalists based there, he evacuated from northern Gaza and now works in incredibly difficult conditions, with dwindling food, water and electricity, and the constant threat of missile strikes from Israel. The Committee to Protect Journalists has recorded that at least 128 media workers have been killed so far in the Israel-Gaza war, and in December accused the Israeli military of targeting journalists and their families in the territory. The IDF denies it targets journalists. Fathi, who has been a photojournalist for more than 16 years, has documented his past year living and reporting from the war, which was triggered by Hamas’s 7 October attack on southern Israel. Travelling all around the Gaza Strip, he has also been looking after his young family, in a conflict that has claimed the lives of at least 42,010 Palestinian people, according to the local authorities. The Guardian publishes independent journalism, made possible by supporters.
